A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has called on the party to explore avenues to bring back former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, into its ranks.

Sowunmi made the remarks during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, suggesting that Obi’s return would be a strategic move for the PDP ahead of future elections.

“Peter Obi was once with us in the PDP,” he said. “He’s from the South-East and left because he believed that region was being excluded. He later secured 6.2 million votes as a Labour Party candidate. If we are serious about restructuring this party and winning power, we must ask ourselves how to bring him back.”

Sowunmi added that Obi’s current momentum was “organic” and that the PDP must be pragmatic in leveraging that energy.

He also criticized the internal disarray within the party, saying much of the current turmoil and recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were self-inflicted.

“There’s a point where you stop blaming others and take responsibility. Our side continues to underestimate Bola Tinubu at its own risk. He may appear frail, but his mind is sharp and strategic. That underestimation is hurting us,” Sowunmi said.
