The Federal Government has reiterated that politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be shielded from corruption investigations or prosecution.

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), made the declaration in a statement on Friday, dismissing allegations that top government officials met with governors from the South-South region shortly before they defected to the APC to escape justice.

The allegations, raised by Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, were described as “fiction” and “from the pit of hell” by the AGF’s office.

Fagbemi emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to the rule of law and will not compromise the anti-corruption war, regardless of political affiliations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) also refuted the claims, with its spokesperson Dele Oyewale branding the accusations as “politically motivated” and “baseless.” He said EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede is “apolitical” and remains focused on impartial investigations.

Both the AGF and EFCC urged the public to disregard what they described as “conjectures” aimed at undermining the government’s anti-graft efforts.
