Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused some governors of instigating the political turmoil in Rivers State, particularly the rift between him and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike claimed that Fubara was misled by certain governors who are now distant from the crisis they helped spark. He said Fubara had visited him in an attempt to reconcile, accompanied by two governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mocking the situation, Wike questioned the loyalty of those who advised Fubara, noting that while they remain secure in their positions, Fubara faces political isolation. He said he had warned Fubara about potential pitfalls but was ignored.

Wike expressed doubt that lifting the state of emergency alone would resolve the crisis, warning that tensions within the state assembly could persist and obstruct governance, including budget approvals.

He also criticized Fubara’s peace efforts, pointing out that they seemed insincere given the continued public insults and demonstrations by the governor’s supporters. Wike stated that genuine peace could not be achieved if Fubara’s allies were acting contrary to reconciliation efforts.
