Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has raised alarms about the resurgence of Boko Haram terrorists in the Tumbus areas of Lake Chad and the Mandara hills. During a meeting in Maiduguri with top military officials, including the Minister of Defense, Zulum expressed concern over recent setbacks in military operations against the insurgents.

He highlighted that despite military efforts, Boko Haram and ISWAP have been regaining territory previously secured. Zulum emphasized the need for increased military presence and operations in these critical areas, particularly the waterways that serve as breeding grounds for the insurgents.

The governor called for more trained personnel and advanced military equipment, including air support and drones, to effectively combat the evolving tactics of the terrorists. He acknowledged the constraints faced by the Nigerian army but insisted that bolstering security in the Sahel region is vital for Nigeria’s overall safety.

Zulum remains optimistic about improving the security situation and pledged continued support to the military in their efforts to end the insurgency. The Minister of Defense assured that the federal government is committed to providing the necessary resources to tackle the growing security challenges in Borno and the northeast.
