Katsina State officials have denied reports of a peace negotiation with bandits in the Batsari Local Government Area. Dr. Bala Salisu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, reaffirmed the government’s stance against negotiating with criminals, while expressing openness to accepting bandits who voluntarily surrender.

Despite the government’s denial, residents reported a meeting where bandit leaders allegedly surrendered weapons and released captives, claiming it was the start of a peace process. Military sources confirmed that ongoing operations pressured the bandits to seek peace.

The situation remains tense as the government maintains its firm position against engaging with bandits, complicating efforts for lasting peace in the region.
