Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade has been officially named the new Alaafin of Oyo, marking a significant moment in the history of the Oyo Kingdom. The announcement was confirmed by Governor Seyi Makinde after consultations and divinations conducted by the Oyomesi, the traditional council of kingmakers.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, issued a statement detailing the decision, stating that the selection of Prince Owoade received the Governor’s approval following thorough deliberations. According to the Commissioner, this declaration resolves the socio-legal disputes that have persisted since the passing of the former Alaafin, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

Hon. Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, expressed optimism about the new monarch’s reign, urging all citizens of Oyo State to rally behind the government and the Alaafin. He emphasized the importance of unity and support to ensure the continued prosperity of the kingdom.

Governor Makinde and his administration have prayed for Prince Owoade’s reign to bring peace, stability, and progress to the Oyo Kingdom, a historic and culturally significant region in Nigeria.

The announcement ends years of anticipation and restores leadership to one of the most respected Yoruba thrones.
