Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has firmly denied reports of his arrest by security forces regarding his remarks on national issues and criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government.

In a series of tweets on his X account on Wednesday, Obi expressed frustration over what he termed “recurring fake news” about him. His media aide, Valentine Obienyem, had previously dismissed similar claims on September 10, 2024, stating that the Department of State Services (DSS) did not detain Obi or his wife, Margaret.

“I have become aware of false rumors about my supposed arrest. Let me clarify that these allegations are completely untrue. I am currently at my residence in Onitsha, Anambra State. It seems that spreading false information about me has become a hobby for some individuals,” Obi stated.

He recalled a previous incident last September when he was in Rwanda, where similar falsehoods circulated, claiming that DSS had invaded his home. “Now, while I am at home in Onitsha, there are claims that I was arrested in Abuja,” he added.

Obi urged the public to disregard these baseless rumors, emphasizing that they serve no positive purpose and distract from the pressing issues facing the nation. He also thanked the public for their concern and continued support for a better Nigeria
