President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following the expiration of Haliru Nababa’s tenure.
Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), announced in a statement on Friday that Ndidi’s appointment will take effect on December 15, 2024.
Born on November 26, 1966, Ndidi hails from Oguta in Imo State. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy Controller-General in charge of the Training and Staff Development Directorate.
Ndidi is a fellow of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and holds the national honor of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR). The President has encouraged him to leverage his extensive experience in his new role.
During a colorful ceremony at the NCoS headquarters on Friday, the former Controller-General, Nababa, was formally relieved of his duties. Speaking at the event, Nababa highlighted his all-inclusive management approach, which involved engaging relevant stakeholders to build on the legacies of past leaders and develop new strategies for emerging challenges.
“I must say that the support and cooperation I received from my management team and field officers remained unwavering,” he stated. “This support allowed the Service to not only navigate challenges but also achieve significant progress in areas such as security, logistics, healthcare services, staff capacity building, inmate welfare, and promotions.”
Nababa expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and urged NCoS personnel to remain steadfast and resist any actions from misguided individuals that could tarnish the reputation of the Service.
