A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, in the amount of N500 million following money laundering charges against him.

Justice Emeka Nwite granted the bail on Friday after considering the arguments presented by the lawyers involved in the case.

The judge ordered Bello to provide two sureties, each in the same amount, who must possess landed property within the court’s jurisdiction. Additionally, the sureties are required to swear to an affidavit of means and deposit the title deeds of their properties for verification by the court registrar.

Bello is also ordered to submit his international passport and will remain at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kuje until the bail conditions are fulfilled.

He was previously arraigned on a 19-count charge of money laundering involving a total of N82 billion.
