As the nationwide protests to end bad governance entered its second day, Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the nation to help alleviate the rising tension in the country.

Obi, speaking at his residence in Onitsha in Anambra State, emphasised the need for the President to directly engage with the public and address their legitimate concerns.

Refuting claims about his location during protest after a video surfaced showing him in Abuja on the first day of protests, the former Anambra governor stated, “I am here in Onitsha; I can’t be here and be in Abuja.”

Highlighting the validity of the protesters’ demands, Obi stressed the importance of pursuing these issues through lawful means. “My appeal is for the President to come out and address the nation. He is the one elected by the people and holds their mandate. At such critical times, he should not rely on aides or appointees to communicate with the public,” he asserted.

Additionally, Obi expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the protests, as well as to those injured or, who’s properties were damaged.
