The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has rejected claims that undergraduates are prohibited from registering for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE).
In a statement from JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin, it was clarified that these assertions are distortions spread by attention-seeking individuals on social media. The official guidelines allow candidates currently enrolled in institutions to register for the exams, provided that they disclose their matriculation status during the registration process.
Dr. Benjamin emphasized that while registration is permitted, failing to disclose an existing admission is an offense under Nigerian admission regulations. He explained that upon securing a new admission, any previous admission becomes void.
This mandatory disclosure helps prevent multiple admissions and curbs the issue of already matriculated students taking exams for others. Candidates who do not comply with this requirement risk losing both admissions if discovered.
JAMB urged the public to adhere to its official guidelines and avoid misleading interpretations that serve selfish interests.
