The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has officially released the names of sixteen officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) who have been indicted by a Special Investigative Panel for alleged misconduct, including a plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
These officers, who were arrested in October 2025 for various breaches of military conduct, belong to the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Major General Samaila Uba confirmed that the investigations have concluded and that the report has been forwarded to the relevant military authorities for further legal proceedings.
The officers set to face trial include:
- Brigadier General Musa Abubakar Sadiq
- Colonel M. A. Ma’aji
- Lieutenant Colonel S. Bappah
- Lieutenant Colonel A. A. Hayatu
- Lieutenant Colonel Dangnan
- Lieutenant Colonel M. Almakura
- Major A. J. Ibrahim
- Major M. M. Jiddah
- Major M. A. Usman
- Major D. Yusuf
- Major I. Dauda
- Captain I. Bello
- Captain A. A. Yusuf
- Lieutenant S. S. Felix
- Lieutenant Commander D. B. Abdullahi
- Squadron Leader S. B. Adamu
The DHQ stated that the findings indicated serious allegations inconsistent with the ethical standards expected from members of the military. Major General Uba reiterated that the measures being taken are purely disciplinary and aimed at maintaining order and professionalism within the AFN.
The military has also reaffirmed its loyalty to constitutional authority, emphasizing its commitment to democratic governance amidst these serious allegations.
