Tension erupted in Abuja as protesting workers reportedly chased the motorcade of the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, during a demonstration over unresolved welfare and salary concerns.

The workers, who are on strike, became visibly agitated as the minister’s convoy passed through the area where they had gathered.

Eyewitness accounts and circulating video footage showed the protesters chanting slogans and moving toward the convoy, demanding attention to their grievances. The action marked an escalation from earlier peaceful protests, reflecting growing frustration among the workers over what they perceive as prolonged neglect of their demands.

The incident underscores deepening strain between the FCT administration and sections of its workforce, raising concerns about communication breakdown and the handling of labor disputes. It also places renewed pressure on the authorities to urgently engage the aggrieved workers and address the issues driving the unrest, in order to prevent further escalation and restore calm.
