Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has been formally registered as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after receiving his party membership card at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The registration took place during a courtesy visit by the Tony Okocha-led Rivers State APC executive. Okocha, who represented the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the membership card to the governor.

Speaking at the event, Governor Fubara said his decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was driven by the need to promote unity, political stability, and accelerated development in Rivers State.

He explained that aligning with the ruling party at the federal level would help strengthen cooperation and improve governance outcomes for the state.

The governor also described his support for President Bola Tinubu as a gesture of appreciation, noting that the president played a key role in ensuring the stability of the Rivers State government during challenging periods.

Fubara said the political alignment between Rivers State and the federal government has clarified the path toward strengthening the APC in the state and achieving a smooth political transition ahead of the 2027 elections. He assured the party’s national leadership that Rivers State would remain a strong base for the APC under his leadership, pledging to support party activities and meet the needs of the state executive.

He further thanked party leaders and supporters for their loyalty and urged them to increase their commitment as the state enters what he described as a new phase of political consolidation and development.
In his remarks, the APC National Chairman, represented at the event, congratulated Governor Fubara on his decision to join the party, describing it as patriotic and in the best interest of Rivers State. He added that the governor’s entry into the APC marks a new chapter of unity among political leaders in the state.

The ceremony was attended by senior party figures, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who was also in the state for the commissioning of road projects and the flag-off of a new bypass linking communities around the Port Harcourt International Airport.
