The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has declared unwavering support for Vice President Kashim Shettima, rejecting calls for President Bola Tinubu to replace him with a running mate from the North-Central zone ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released in Abuja and signed by the Forum’s Chairman, Saleh Zazzaga, the group denounced the North-Central Renaissance Movement’s proposal for regional representation in the vice presidency. The Forum described such demands as unrepresentative of the North-Central APC’s official stance.
Zazzaga, who was part of the 2023 APC campaign council, reiterated the Forum’s endorsement of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, praising their leadership and the administration’s achievements. He emphasized that Shettima enjoys widespread support within the zone due to his role in governance and his harmonious working relationship with President Tinubu—qualities which he claimed are being envied by opposition groups.
The Forum also reaffirmed its promise to deliver six million votes to Tinubu in 2027, citing major infrastructural projects and high-profile federal appointments given to the North-Central region as proof of the administration’s inclusiveness.
Among key figures from the region in Tinubu’s cabinet are:
- Lateef Fagbemi (Attorney General of the Federation – Kwara)
- Mohammed Idris (Information – Niger)
- Nentawe Yilwatda (Humanitarian Affairs – Plateau)
- Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim (Women Affairs – Nasarawa)
- Zephaniah Jisalo (Special Duties – FCT)
- Joseph Utsev (Water Resources – Benue)
The Forum concluded by stating that President Tinubu has done more for the North-Central zone than any previous leader in the democratic era, making him and Vice President Shettima the best candidates for continued leadership.
