Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has donated ₦100 million, four two-bedroom apartments in Ajara, and two pickup utility vehicles to the State Council of the Nigerian Legion as part of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations. In addition, he provided four cows, 500 bags of rice, and other food items to support Legionnaires and the families of fallen heroes.
The governor announced these contributions at the State Executive Council meeting during the launch of the Year 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of recognizing and remembering the sacrifices of military personnel, asserting that it is a constitutional duty to honor those who served the nation, many of whom are now handicapped.
He stated, “Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women. The Emblem Appeal is a responsibility we owe to those who laid down their lives for Nigeria and to those who returned with life-changing injuries.”
The Commandant of the Lagos Council of the Nigerian Legion, Mr. Akeem Wolimoh, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from the government, highlighting that no other state has provided similar assistance, which has significantly improved the living conditions of Legionnaires and empowered their dependents through skill acquisition programs.
The event saw attendance from various dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other state officials, as well as military personnel from different branches of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
